Today, workers at the W. 6th Street Starbucks in Cleveland voted unanimously to form a union with Starbucks Workers United at their store, joining a downtown Columbus store to become the first Starbucks locations in the state of Ohio to do so. North Shore AFL-CIO Executive Secretary Dan O'Malley issued the following statement:

“Today marks a great victory for the workers at the West 6th Street Starbucks, and for the entire greater Cleveland labor movement. These hourly-wage workers endured unrelenting attacks from high-priced union busters as they joined together to form a collective voice in their workplace. No matter what adversity came their way, these Starbucks employees stood strong, and they won. On behalf of the Cleveland labor movement, congratulations and welcome to the family.”

The North Shore AFL-CIO Federation of Labor is Ohio’s largest central labor council and the organized voice for 80,000 working people in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties. Over 146 local unions are affiliated with our labor federation. We represent workers from bus drivers to steelworkers, from public sector workers to grocery workers, from rocket scientists at NASA to world-renowned orchestra musicians.
