AFFILIATION
A stronger labor movement starts with solidarity. The North Shore Federation of Labor brings together unions from across Northeast Ohio to build collective power for working people. Through organizing support, political advocacy, community action, and coordinated campaigns, our affiliates work together to win better wages, safer workplaces, stronger contracts, and a more just economy.
Whether fighting for a fair contract, supporting workers on strike, advancing pro-worker legislation, or organizing new workplaces, unions are stronger when we stand together.
WHO CAN AFFILIATE?
Any local union within Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties aligned with the values of the labor movement is eligible to affiliate with the North Shore Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
Affiliates range from public sector unions and building trades to healthcare workers, manufacturing workers, educators, transportation workers, service employees, and more. Together, our affiliates represent tens of thousands of union members across Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.
WHY AFFILIATE?
The North Shore Federation of Labor is more than a monthly meeting — it is a united movement for working people.
By affiliating, unions gain the ability to:
- Coordinate regional organizing and contract campaigns
- Build solidarity during strikes and workplace disputes
- Shape local, state, and federal political advocacy
- Support pro-worker legislation and labor policy
- Participate in labor education and leadership development
- Connect with unions across industries and sectors
- Engage in community partnerships and worker actions
- Strengthen the voice of labor throughout Northeast Ohio
When unions work together through a central labor council, victories become possible that no single union could achieve alone.
DELEGATE PARTICIPATION
Affiliates are afforded delegates based on the size of their local union. Delegates are encouraged to actively participate in the work of the Federation by attending monthly Delegate Meetings and serving on committees that help guide the organization’s priorities and programs.
Delegate Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Laborers’ Local 310 Hall, Lower Level Hall, 3250 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.
AFFILIATION COSTS
Affiliates contribute $0.50 per member, per month in per capita dues to support the work of the Federation.
These funds help sustain:
- Organizing and contract campaigns
- Worker education and training
- Solidarity and community events
- Strike and mobilization support
- Communications and labor outreach
Per capita funds are not used to support political candidates.
