Labor in the Minbar: An Introduction to Islam and Ramadan

This webinar will introduce AFL-CIO state federations and area and central labor councils to Islam and the observance of the Ramadan fast. Participants will gain practical guidance on engaging in effective outreach to Muslim communities within their jurisdictions, proper etiquette for attending Friday Prayer at a local mosque, and an understanding of the significance of Ramadan for Muslims.

Ramadan begins at sunset on Friday, February 17, 2026, and concludes at sunset on Saturday, March 19, 2026. During this period, Muslims observe a daily fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food and drink. This webinar will enhance participants’ understanding of Islamic practices and support stronger connections with Muslim union members and the broader Muslim community. The session will be led by an imam.

The webinar will equip you to do outreach for Labor in the Minbar events during the Labor Day weekend period.
