LABOR 2022 POLITICAL PROGRAM
There’s a direct relationship between the ballot box and the bread box, and what the union fights for and wins at the bargaining table can be taken away in the legislative halls.-Walter Reuther
We have 30 locals participating in our Labor 2022 Political Program. Those locals represent over 25,000 union members combined. Thank you for your participation!
The following is a list of actions we are taking which align with the National AFL-CIOs 9 Point Plan to Win.
VOTER REGISTRATION From now until the October 11, 2022 deadline, we are supporting locals with voter registration drives. We have several resources available to affiliate locals including "Register to Vote" yard signs and the "Register to Vote!" worksite fliers. We can also access a list of your unregistered members and arrange to have CLUWs Hip Hop Voter Registration bus at your next event.
VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT APPLICATIONS Voters are already able to request an absentee ballot for the November 8 General Election. We have Vote-by-Mail Ballot Applications available at our office. If your members work long hours like NALC and APWU members, vote-by-mail might be the right program to drive up voter turnout.
POSTCARD WRITING We will have 10,000 postcards delivered to our office next week. Half of the postcards will feature Tim Ryan and the other half the three Ohio Supreme Court candidates. We are working with retiree groups to have postcard writing events and will be asking locals to host postcard parties. The postcards come with the address printed and postage paid.
DOOR KNOCKING/LIT DROPPING We have not scheduled any field activities for the Labor 2022 campaign. We are looking at potentially working with AFSCME for a canvass on Saturday, August 27. The Tim Ryan campaign is working on scheduling a canvass kickoff during Labor Day weekend.
LABOR NEIGHBOR PROGRAM Members have the opportunity to sign up to canvass union households in their precincts or wards this year. We will mail or deliver campaign literature to you, and using the MiniVan app, you will be able to canvass in your neighborhood on your own time. To sign up, please click the link below. |
CONNECTING ISSUES WITH UNION VALUES We have issue-based fliers available for your worksites or union meetings. To better help shape those pieces and talking points, the Ohio AFL-CIO has produced an anonymous member survey that we would like you to distribute with your membership. Take the survey by clicking the button below, then remember to share: |
RECRUIT 1% OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP TO GET INVOLVED The National AFL-CIO has called on locals to recruit 1% of their membership to volunteer. We will need volunteers for many different tasks, from stuffing envelopes and writing postcards to phone banking and knocking on doors. We've created an online form to recruit volunteers. If you want to keep your volunteer list private, we will work through you to get volunteers to our events. |
