Welcome
Thank you for signing up to canvass! You are part of a massive statewide effort to re-elect Senator Sherrod Brown and to finally end gerrymandering in Ohio. We hope you have a great experience. Here is a short guide to get you ready to knock doors. If you would like additional training, contact Brian Pearson at bpearson@clevelandaflcio.org.

Who We Are Canvassing
We will be talking with fellow union members and their families, including Working America members and households. Our walk packets will include persuasion, base, and GOTV targets. Persuasion targets are voters we might need to have a deeper conversation with about our issues and candidates, base and GOTV voters are folks who we need to mobilize to vote, and likely won’t
need too much persuasion.

Script Overview
Right now we are canvassing for Sherrod Brown and the anti-gerrymandering amendment. You'll walk with flyers that have additional talking points. Use the script as a guide for your conversations but also make it their own. Here is a copy of our current script.

MiniVan Training/Refresher
Whether you have used miniVan or not, it's helpful for a refresher. We have a guide available here.

Canvassing Best Practices
If you haven't canvassed before, considering finding an experienced partner. We can find one or you, too. Here are some quick tips.

  • Don’t leave lit in mail box
  • “Rub” the sticky note flyer to make it stick on the door
  • Stay in view of a partner (if that’s what they want).
  • Exchange numbers with partners
  • Beware of dogs, shake fences
  • Be safe
  • Have fun
